Allan Sterling, operations non-commissioned officer and combative instructor, 443rd Civil Affairs Battalion, demonstrates how to perform an ‘up-knee’ from the inside control position during the Army Basic Combatives Course, Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Feb. 13, 2014. The course teaches a systematic approach to fighting and training in close quarters. Service members learned close combat techniques, drills and skills during half-hour daily practical exercise classes throughout the 40-hour, five-day course. They also watched films and attended lectures covering various training techniques. On day five, the students were assessed and had to correctly perform and explain five ground and five standing techniques.

443rd CA BN hosts Army Field Sanitation Training certification course

Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti (CLDJ), potentially just became a slightly healthier place with 35 service members from the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force completing the U.S. Army’s 40-hour Field Sanitation Training (FST) certification course July 10, 2020. The Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) 443rd Civil Affairs Battalion (CA BN) led the training, which saw the students learn about a range of topics including food service and water supply sanitation, pest control, and heat injuries. At the end of the week, the students were also required to take a test to earn their certification, which all 35 passed.

In a classroom filled with dozens of children, members of the 443rd Civil Affairs Battalion functional specialty team conducted an oral hygiene demonstration in Djibouti City, Djibouti, Aug. 8.

Kurt Sikes, both Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment deployed with the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), heisted and heaved one another, alternating control with each movement.
