The Joint Warrior Competition started with a joint physical fitness test including pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, two-mile run, and five-mile ruck march. Members had to carry a minimum of 35 pounds during the march. After the joint physical fitness test, participants started the joint combat fitness test. The combat test was comprised of a low crawl, tourniquet application, buddy carry, radio medical evacuation, grenade toss, tire flip, ammo can carry, dead lift, and rope climb. Competitors also completed a Navy swim test and 400 word essay to round off the event.

The Joint U.S. Military Tropical Medicine course is designed to train and instruct medical personnel in the practice of medicine for developing areas around the globe. The course covers topics such as malaria, HIV, yellow fever and other diseases.

Service members from Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa Civil Affairs competed in an obstacle-filled mud run hosted by the French military, Nov. 6, 2016, in Djibouti, Djibouti. The event allowed coalition forces from French, Japanese, and American teams to interact and build camaraderie while navigating a five kilometer course. The French 5th Marine Regiment team took first place.

Nearly 40 soldiers from the Djiboutian Army will be able to see in the dark after completing night vision goggle training Oct. 9-12, 2016, in Djibouti City, Djibouti. The training, conducted by members of the U.S. Army’s Charlie Company, 411th Civil Affairs Battalion, which is currently mobilized to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, comes as the Djiboutian troops prepare for a two-year deployment to Somalia, as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia’s effort to remove al-Shabaab from the region.
