More than 30 U.S. State Department officials, representing 12 East Africa countries, joined military leaders from the Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) for an East Africa Security Forum at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Dec. 11-13.

Hosted by the French Armed Forces 5th Combined Overseas Marine Battalion the Grand Bara race honors the long history of the French relationship with Djibouti. Participants in the race follow a 15-kilometer line of rocks in the Grand Bara desert, which the Foreign Legion used to make its Soldiers paint as punishment.

With their twin-engine Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats mounted with three fully-automatic weapons and a team of highly-skilled Sailors, they look menacing to any foe.
