AFRICOM Commander Visits Djibouti for Thanksgiving

CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti — Gen. Michael Langley, commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), attended the East Africa Security Forum (EASF), the Marine Corps Ball, and spent Thanksgiving with deployed service members at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, during the last week of November 2024.
Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa conducts operations to enhance partner nation capacity, promote regional stability, dissuade conflict, and protect U.S. and partner interests.
MSRON performs exercise with Djibouti Navy and Coast Guard

U.S. Sailors assigned to Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron-1 (MSRON-1) participate in a knowledge exchange with women from the Djiboutian Coast Guard and Djiboutian Navy during Sea Sisters, part of Exercise Bull Shark 25-1, at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, on Nov. 4-6, 2024. Led by Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, Bull Shark 25-1 is a joint training exercise with U.S. and partner forces focused on enhancing personnel recovery capabilities and interoperability. Sea Sisters, facilitated by Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) and MSRON-1, spanned three days and included sessions on maritime survival tactics, medical care, and relationship-building. WPS was established by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 in 2000, WPS emphasizes the critical role of women in peace and security efforts and calls for the protection of women and girls in conflict zones. The East Africa Security Forum (EASF) was recently held at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. The forum, hosted by Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), aimed to enhance U.S. collaboration with regional partners and address complex security issues. It brought together senior leaders and distinguished guests from U.S. government agencies, military and diplomatic missions, as well as representatives from partner nations.
