Christina Hammervold, Task Force Sparta platoon commander, sprints her two-mile run graded to Army standards during the Joint Warrior Competition, Nov. 19, 2016, Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. The run began after participants had already completed pull-ups, sit-ups, and push-ups. Members involved in the event met on the turf field at 3:30 a.m. to begin the day of events. U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Adam Agosti, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa Seabees, reaches for the wall during the 240-meter Navy swim test for the Joint Warrior Competition, Nov. 19, 2016, Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. The swim test occurred after the joint physical fitness test and the joint combat fitness test. CJTF-HOA and Camp Lemonnier members participate in the Joint Warrior Competition

The Joint Warrior Competition started with a joint physical fitness test including pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, two-mile run, and five-mile ruck march. Members had to carry a minimum of 35 pounds during the march. After the joint physical fitness test, participants started the joint combat fitness test. The combat test was comprised of a low crawl, tourniquet application, buddy carry, radio medical evacuation, grenade toss, tire flip, ammo can carry, dead lift, and rope climb. Competitors also completed a Navy swim test and 400 word essay to round off the event.

Tropical Medicine Course Comes to Camp Lemonnier

U.S. personnel and medical providers from partner nations attend a course dedicated to military tropical medicine at Camp Lemonnier, 15 Nov. 2016. The Joint U.S. Military Tropical Medicine course is designed to train and instruct medical personnel in the practice of medicine for developing areas around the globe. The course covers topics such as malaria, HIV, yellow fever and other diseases.

Nehkonti Adams, Doctor, Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, details how traditional medicine interacts with modern medicine in the cultures of developing nations during the Tropical Military Medicine Course at Camp Lemonnier, 15 Nov. 2016. The Tropical Medical course supports the operational needs of AFRICOM and the Special Operations Command and is a requirement for all medical professionals deploying to provide health care on the African continent.
