The Choi Young commenced its counter-piracy operation on Nov. 27, 2015. The ship and its crew were critical in the success during Operation Dawn of Gulf of Aden on Jan. 1, 2011 when its visit, board, search, and seizure team rescued hostages from pirates on the ROK-operated chemical tanker, Samho Jewelry.
