Inaugural flag ceremony symbolizes progression of Camp, CJTF-HOA

The U.S and Djiboutian flags now fly in front of the new joint headquarters building on Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, thanks to some of the camp's Seabees.

Sailor's assigned to Camp Lemonnier, raised the Colors in a symbol of cooperative integration between Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa and Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, the in front of the newly-slated joint headquarters May 17, 2017. Marking the first time this was conducted in front of one of the installation’s newest structures, the twice-daily ceremony honors both the U.S. and Djiboutian flags. In a symbol of cooperative integration between Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa and Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, the Colors were raised by Sailors assigned to Camp Lemonnier in front of the new joint headquarters building May 17. Marking the first time this was conducted in front of one of the installation’s newest structures, the twice-daily ceremony honors both the U.S. and Djiboutian flags. Humans of HOA: From pulpit to battlefield
The air was heavy that day - not just from the summer heat, but from the weight of loss that clung to everyone in the room. Families sat close together, shoulders brushing, as if physical proximity could offer some small measure of comfort. Outside the chapel, the faint hum of military vehicles was a distant reminder of the larger conflict at hand. Inside, however, time felt suspended. It was just us, the grieving, and the silence.
