U.S. Army soldiers of the the East Africa Response Force (EARF), assigned to Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) soldiers, and the Tanzania People’s Defense Force (TPDF) trained on improvised explosive device (IED) familiarization and detection on day three for exercise Justified Accord 2025 (JA25) at the Msata Military Training Base, Msata, Tanzania, Feb. 13, 2025. JA25 is the premier U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) exercise in East Africa, designed to enhance multinational combat readiness, strengthen crisis response capabilities and empower allies and partners in the region. Led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) and hosted in Kenya, Djibouti and Tanzania, JA25 integrates high-intensity training scenarios that sharpen warfighting skills, increase operational reach and enhance the ability to execute complex joint and multinational operations. Msata, Tanzania-- U.S. 13, 2025.

The training consisted of identification, nomenclature, procedures, and sweeping for IEDs. Though the training was a refresher for many, having a venue at exercise JA25 enables the ability to communicate as a combined team with real-world applications on identifying and detecting IED threats.

With the teams training alongside one another, exercise JA25 aims to bring multinational partners together with rigourous academic programs and realistic field training where team members can see improvements with interoperability and their readiness in real-time. Coupled with the feedback being provided by the JA25 staff, along with the hands-on real-world training scenarios, the exercise enables African forces to address shared security challenges, build crisis response and counterterrorism capabilities.

Throughout JA25, service members from both nations have been working hard toward the goal of building interoperability. What has transpired are the partnerships and friendships, many may have not expected to have. However, the bond's that are built in exercises like these can last a lifetime. And as all the participants in the exercise close out their day and get some well needed rest, they know they will have the energy to meet the next day's objectives, because they journey on fighting toward the same goal as one team.
