Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa Image

Pfc. Fabio Saldanha, Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment gunner, engages a simulated target during a fire team exercise in Arta, Djibouti, Oct. 20, 2016. During the exercise, one team would provide cover fire while the other team advanced on a simulated target. The intent of the exercise was to teach soldiers how to move from inside a vehicle when in contact with the enemy, exit the vehicle, and then return fire effectively using live ammunition on simulated targets. Lapse In Appropriations
The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
