CJTF-HOA transports cargo to Mozambique

Department of Defense personnel load U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) food pallets onto a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III, assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, supporting Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, April 2, 2019, for the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) relief effort in the Republic of Mozambique and surrounding areas following Cyclone Idai. CJTF-HOA, which is leading the DoD relief effort, transported 17,400 pounds of USAID food, a forklift, a 25K loader and palletizing equipment on the C-17 to Mozambique following a call for assistance from the USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team. I joined the U.S. Army at 18 years old, straight out of high school. In fact, I enlisted while I was still a senior. My decision was driven by more than a sense of duty — it was deeply personal. Fast forward to today, I am proudly serving my country overseas with the Arizona Army National Guard. I am in an administrative role for the Transportation Motor Pool unit, which is in charge of managing a large fleet of vehicles, most of which are sourced from local Djiboutian contractors.
