Service members prepare for French Desert Commando Course

U.S. military members conducted a physical training test at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Aug. 5, 2017. The test was in preparation for an upcoming multi-day French Desert Commando Course that will challenge participants physically and mentally through land and water obstacles, combat scenarios and extreme endurance exercises while surviving in austere field conditions.

CJTF-HOA participates in 40th Djiboutian Independence Day’s military parade

Djibouti gained its independence from France on June 29, 1977, making this year a special 40th anniversary celebration. The annual Djiboutian Independence Day celebrations are used to highlight Djiboutian traditions such as singing and dancing and to promote peace, equality, and unity as the nation works its way into another year of Independence. The military parade is an important part of the celebrations, giving the Djiboutian National Army an opportunity to build relationships with its Multinational partners.

In military terminology, “the range is hot” is a warning that weapons are currently authorized to fire on a training range. This term has dual meaning here for military members, who are no strangers to the brutal heat of the training ranges located in the mountains along the Gulf of Tadjoura’s southern coast.
