Somali trainees graduate police academy

Around 200 Somali graduates completed Italian Mission Training 5, a nearly three-month training program where they learned policing skills as part of an agreement between Italy and Somalia at the Djibouti Police Academy, June 23, 2016. The course taught the trainees skills in crime scene investigation, counterterrorism intervention, riot control, environmental protection and others. During the ceremony, Italian Army Col. Renato Chicoli thanked the trainees, Somali Police Forces, as well as the National Gendarmerie and police of Djibouti for their dedication to the success of the mission. U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Bruzzini assumed command of the 449th Air Expeditionary Group from U.S. Air Force Col. Daniel Duffy during the 449th AEG Change of Command ceremony June 6, 2016, at Camp Lemmonier, Djibouti. U.S. Air Force Col. Andra Kniep, 435th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, served as the presiding officer for the ceremony.

Task Force Seminole leaves ironclad legacy in Djibouti

Last year, Task Force Seminole’s B Troop, 1st Squadron, 153rd Cavalry Regiment began their deployment on a security mission to Djibouti, which involved day and night surveillance and a continuous improvement of their defensive fighting positions (DFP). As the Seminoles’ tour draws to a close, they can look back on their 11-month security mission, which, at times, left them exposed to the elements or rained on, soaking the soldiers’ uniforms and gear.

Trang Tieu, CJTF-HOA J44 Force Engineers, and Abdi Ali, translator and guide, talked with the village elders and measured the water level in the well to help determine the community needs.

Camp Lemonnier and Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa representatives and French forces in Djibouti commemorate Victory in Europe Day, May 8, 2016, at the French base in Djibouti. During the ceremony, General Philippe Montocchio, commander of French forces in Djibouti, spoke about one of the strongest elements of the war, the men and women across Europe resisting against the invading enemy. V-E Day, observed annually in France, celebrates the victory in Europe, ending World War II, and became a national French holiday.
