Senior enlisted leaders of the Djiboutian Armed Forces (FAD) visited Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, for the first time Dec. 29, 2015, to meet with command senior enlisted leaders of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa with the intent of sharing their professional advice and networking with influential military figures from the host nation. The main focus was the current situation in Somalia and the African Union mission there to neutralize Al-Shabaab and stabilize the country.

Mark Stammer, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa commanding general, gives a toast during a reception on board the Republic of Korea’s Navy Choi Young Destroyer Dec. 21, 2015, in Djibouti. The ship’s primary mission is to provide aid for ship convoy operations, provide maritime security operations for counter piracy and sustain diplomatic alliances with foreign countries. The Choi Young commenced its counter-piracy operation on Nov. 27, 2015. The ship and its crew were critical in the success during Operation Dawn of Gulf of Aden on Jan. 1, 2011 when its visit, board, search, and seizure team rescued hostages from pirates on the ROK-operated chemical tanker, Samho Jewelry.
